Welcome to the Washington County Literacy Council
Serving the Community for 20+ Years
Celebrating More Than 20 Years of Service in Washington County
BIG NEWS!!! MON VALLEY CENTER OPENING MARCH 3RD!!!
In 1985, armed with just $500, a few boxes of tutoring materials and a table at Citizen's
Library, several Washington area literacy advocates pulled together and formed an
organization focused on eradicating illiteracy in Washington County.
Today, with the help of scores of supporters, volunteers and tutors, the Council has grown
into a vital community organization that has helped hundreds of adults in the area learn to
read.
The Council provides free, confidential one-on-one tutoring to adults who read below the
fourth grade level. The Council also participates in a number of literacy awareness programs
that focus on early childhood and family literacy.
