Great things have been happening!

A big THANK YOU! to everyone who made our Mardi Gras Fundraiser a HUGE success!

In 1985, armed with just $500, a few boxes of tutoring materials and a table at Citizen's
Library, several Washington area literacy advocates pulled together and formed an
organization
focused on eradicating illiteracy in Washington County.

Today, with the help of scores of supporters, volunteers and tutors, the Council has grown
into a vital community organization that
has helped hundreds of adults in the area learn to
read.

The Council provides free, confidential one-on-one tutoring to adults who read below the
fourth grade level. The Council also participates in a number of literacy awareness programs
that focus on early childhood and family literacy.
